50ft lead is one way of dealing with too bright pickups
Interestingly it results in the opposite!
A longer cable has higher capacitance, therefore reduced treble, I dare say any increase is coming from pedals after it.
Oh as in they have buffering even in true bypass ?

If it’s buffered then it’s not true bypass :-)

RobRoyMcCoy did a demo for NZG members a long, long time ago, when he owned Freedom Cables. It was really well done and he talked through a lot of stuff, short version of the demo was the guitar cable makes fuck all difference but the amp to cab cable makes a difference.
That’s because the impedance of the speaker has an effect on the resistance of the cable to the point that there are limits to the length dependent on the gauge of wire and how many ohms your speaker is :-)

Thanks re: above
Lead length and treble dissapation requring buffering I understand (I think)
Still finding comments across the interweb relating to long cables helping impedance mismatch with the re-201 but there is less about how that actually behaves sonically.
I think my catlinbread picoso chille on 0 should act as a great signal buffer.

I hope the Space Echo's preamp is more tolerant than the human ear.

Does more volume increase impedance?

Isn’t a guitar level like 100 ohms and line level, Keyboards etc, like 1000 ohms?

You’d want a buffer that just gives you line level wouldn’t you?

Seems the easiest solution. 50ft of cable just sounds bloody messy!

Volume is not related to impedance - it’s related to AC voltage. Impedance is basically resistance, but for AC.

Longer cables create more series impedance. When that series impedance ends at a parallel impedance (the speaker), you get a voltage divider. A higher series impedance makes for more attenuation. On top of that you have the capacitance of cables, which creates a low pass filter too. The two combine to dull out your tone in longer cables, whether it’s at the input of the amp or the output to the speaker.

Does more volume increase impedance? No, level is not related to impedance, unless you are distorting the signal at that stage.

Isn’t a guitar level like 100 ohms and line level, Keyboards etc, like 1000 ohms? No, guitars are high impedance devices, they like to see about 1 meg ohm

You’d want a buffer that just gives you line level wouldn’t you? Line level is a signal strength, nothing to do with impedance really.

It's related to AC frequency.

Typical, had it backwards!

I was pretty sure volume didn’t change impedance, but every time someone explains this shit to me I just forget it again.

The other day the guys on that pedal show were going on about 47v coming out of the fx send on his amp and that his pedals wouldn’t take that, and they tried but failed to explain why that was a problem.

How would volts effect a noise signal path, and why would amp builders make high volts come out of their fx sends?

Not that 47v is high, but might be as far as a digital delay pedal is concerned…

Some FX loops, especially passive ones have a high signal output. Line level is generally considered to be about 1V rms ( more here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Line_level), many pedals can take a higher input than that, but 47v is massive in signal terms and would overdrive the input buffer/circuitry of the pedal.

I set about the recap last night

All in all it took a few hours.

Three boards to work on, a lot of board wires to desolder and label and some fiddly work. Quite meditative tho once you get going

You can see how much smaller the new caps are...
