Re: Just a quick soldering tutorial I found
nice work.. it's good to put this kind of knowledge out there cos some people may be putting the solder on the iron.
also (another handy tidbit) when I've finished soldering for a while and am going to turn the iron off, I 'tin' the iron tip to make it last longer. just clean the iron on a damp sponge to get rid of any crud, then cover the end with solder, then turn off.

cheers for that, its the best description i've seen
Hurdy Gurdy.... some how... and I'm not entirely certain how mind you, an instrument that sounds like someone has shoved a nest of angry hornets into a goose with a kazoo bill and is randomly slapping the poor creature with an accordion.... Sounds amazing.

Ah yes the amount of people I've seen coat the tip with solder then go try and solder the component...rocklander wrote:nice work.. it's good to put this kind of knowledge out there cos some people may be putting the solder on the iron.

Good tip on coating the, er, tip... and while on the subject of damp sponges, always keep one handy while working and just keep wiping off the crud that builds up on the tip as you work (the more expensive soldering stations come with sponge/sponge holders).
The older I get, the more disappointed in myself I become.

My soldering tip of the day; look at the soldering iron when you pick it up, if possible. It hurts to pick up the hot part of the iron instead of the handle part...

Re: Just a quick soldering tutorial I found
I have not done much soldering but it has to be easier than TIG welding stainless in 80+ knots down in the Southern Ocean. I've done that plenty of times, but I'm hesitant to go near any guitar related goodies with a soldering iron?
One night on the Chatham Rise we spent hours searching for a Korean engineer who was resurfacing steel on a harness down the end of the trawl lane ramp, he torched his gas line, set himself on fire and fell off the ship, never to be seen again.

You are the hardest guitaring pirate ever.
Your stories are so awesome! I bet you're on ACC because you wrestled a whale.
The only person that could beat you on the hardarse measure is war_wolf, who out-shredded Malmsteen, satriani, and vai at the same time but had to sacrifice a finger to do so - it came off when he was doing a separate arpeggio on each finger at once at 350 notes per second. Something had to give, either a finger or the very fabric of space time and we all know how much of a selfish git space time is.

know the feeling, im sure i'd have more luck using an arc welder on it rather than a soldering ironAquila Rosso wrote: but I'm hesitant to go near any guitar related goodies with a soldering iron?

BTW, I think Zakk has lost the plot and needs to go to rehab.

Meh, just tell 'em that your favourite key is B# and don't back down.
They'll eventually explode.
Takes a while and you might have to wash your hands after the clean up
