I'm looking to buy a Multimeter for helping me build pedals, can someone point me in the right direction? A few cheapies on the DSE website:

http://dicksmith.co.nz/product/Q1469/un ... eter-ut20b

http://dicksmith.co.nz/product/Q1563/ds ... multimeter

Will I need a $100 one over the $15 one and why?

I got one from the warehouse.. was either $29.95 or $39.95.
has capacitance meter which is handy... but not picofarad level

all I've used in any of the pedals I've done.

that $15 one will be fine.. but eventually the fact that the probes are moulded in there (as opposed to plugs) will bother you

get a handful of alligator leads too (surplustronics have them)

Make sure you're not touching the leads. It can affect the readings.

This is best bang for buck in the hobby range... same as the one I use.
Biggest difference is it has 43 ranges AND autoranging, so you don't have to decode the display. Also it comes in a handy case which props it up for use on your bench

I had no idea, but farnell/element14 must have changed their strategy... they now have free shipping on all online orders

minimum purchase of $10 which is way more than reasonable..

so the next bit is, if ya want small, solid mono jacks (very handy for 1590A builds) the lumberg KLMB 3 is ideal..

they take up about 75% of the same room a switchcraft does.

Nice! Thanks for the tip, I lost interest in them because of the shipping/minimum order limits a while ago

same, but mouser couldn't supply that particular jack, so when I asked how many I'd have to buy to get free delivery they said $75 worth on the phone, but online orders were free delivery for orders over $10.. blew me away.

I think they're making up for it by raising their prices.. these jacks are a fair price, but the 1590a is 60%odd more expensive than the ones at mouser... and it's exactly the same hammond box too.
