Attaching pedals to board

Post by GrantB »

I tend to go through a lot of boards...I make them out of plywood (7mm I think), but a simple piece of pine at the back to tilt them forward, and all is well. The reason for so many is I like to chop and change and I also usually use loopers.

So recently I have given up on velcro as it's too loose and unstable for my big hoofs. Also, with pedals (like larger ones - my HOG and M9) all have their own rubber feet which makes velcroing a little tricky/less effective.

Here's a tip - ice cream container lids!

Cut a strip of ice cream lid (plastic 2ltr type) into a 9mm strip. drill hole (around 2-3mm) along a neatly drawn felt tip line. Cut the strip into lengths ensuring there are 2 holes per piece. Unscrew screws on underneath of pedal, screw back in with one of the pieces of lid in it. Then use a small wood screw type thing available in those cheap packs from Bunnings et al into the plywood.

Result - very stable (tip upside down), easily changed pedal board securing system. No velcro gunk everywhere and importantly cheap as chips (which are now not that cheap).

Here's a crap photo for now of my M9 secured to one of my boards...this was using old binding off cuts, but recently I have been using Ice Cream lids. They are thinner too than the binding so better to screw in against the pedal.

This is clever; Like.

Can I add that it is now 2 months since I attached my pedals with Blutack. They're rock solid but still easy to remove. You need decent sized blobs and they set after 24 hours. I can hold one pedal and wave the whole board around so it's really stable.

Velcro. Earthquake velcro if you never want to shift them ever again.
