18v Power Supply
I have 3 Catalinbread pedals. All of them sound way better with 18 volts. I'm currently using a switchmode supply from a laptop but my newly acquired Decibel 11 highlights just how noisy it is.
Any low cost suggestions to fix?
Can't double from the Decibel 11; not enough spare outputs.
Not going to buy a Dunlop Brick unless it's really cheap.
Any other ideas?

Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Re: 18v Power Supply
Free up an output or two and have an 18 volt daisy chain for just those three. I found with iso power supplies that although it works best if everything is isolated, you can still have a couple of analog pedals on a daisy chain with no bad noise. The really important thing is to get each digital pedal isolated.

See if Ryan will sell you some of the 18V wall warts he gets made for the pigtronix stuff

Re: 18v Power Supply
Simple. Get rid of the Decibel 11 and get a decent power supply. The T Rex Chameleon.

Well, it seems to fall short of meeting Slowie's needs.bbrunskill wrote:Nothing wrong with the decibel 11 guys!

Re: 18v Power Supply
No PSU met my all needs. I have 10 pedals; 3 digital, 3 18v and the rest normal analogue. There was no unit which let me power 7 pedals then had 6 outputs left over to double for the 18s. I'm in two PSU territory and I can't justify that extra outlay.Conway wrote:Well, it seems to fall short of meeting Slowie's needs.bbrunskill wrote:Nothing wrong with the decibel 11 guys!
If it becomes too much of a hassle, the Catalinbreads will just have to go which would be a pity.

Re: 18v Power Supply
I'm sure a Chameleon would work for you. You can daisy chain some 9v outs and the 18v out. You've looked underneath my pedalboard, haven't you?!

Ben's idea is solid:

But falls down on one point: Free up an output or twobenderissimo wrote:Ben's idea is solid:

T-Rex fuel tank jr, < $150 landed from PGS, voltage doubler cable from Ryan, done. Still need to daisy chan two pedals as its only 5 outs...

Hmmmmaybe. I've spent enough lately. And I just got pinged big time by a speed camera.
Anybody want to swap Catalinbread for Wampler?

Re: 18v Power Supply
Why is this discussion the DIY dept.
Or
Why don't you build one. Plenty of specialised ps schemes out there, and the you could have exactly what you want. Despite not playing guitar, I still consider it a crime to get rid of pedals.

Knows just enough electrical theory to get killed.
