Anyone just love making cables?

Post by sirvill »

Cause I hate it :p

Seriously though, looking to source a cable like this one: http://btpa.com/AS-KNUCKTRE01-XX.html (for channel changing my new amp with a switching unit)

Its basically an 8 pin DIN to 3xTS jack cable.

Can't find one in NZ and the one above is pretty pricey - I'm sure i could make one out of parts, does this look kinda doable? Anyone had experience soldering DINs etc?

(or if anyone loves making weird cables and wants some extra cash and wants to make one for me I'd hear it :p)

I made one for my old rectoverb, was only 5din but wasn't really any more difficult than making up a mic cable (I also hate making cables though so I'm not going to volunteer haha).
From memory I picked up the multicore cable and din jack from jaycar, they probably have suitable materials for an 8din as well

To be honest the hardest part was figuring out which wire to solder to which part on the din jack, couldn't find a pinout or schematic anywhere.
Have you worked that out yet?

I would use 3 x these (mind you - poor quality from Jaycar, screw thread is abismal)

mount them in 1 of these boxes:

Then Wire the DIN plug to the box and buy three guitar cables of your liking to continue to the separate channels.

You probably won't save much I think.
When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.

Yeah... especially cause I'll need to buy another DIN cable too.

I tape the end fitting/plug down on block or the table so it sits still then offer up wire & solder. I suppose a little vice clamped to the table would work even better.

Send me the schematic so I can see what cable you need.
How long do you need the cable ?
How far apart are the 1/4" jacks on the back of the amp ?

If they use a common ground which is highly likely then the parts from Jaycar are $30 to build a 1.3M cable + $4.70 per extra meter.
Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...
