I've made guitars, Amp cab's and pedalboards (angled ones)
Anyone have experience with making live-in boards..
Like.. a flat board with layers (GigRig style) on a base with a lift off lid?
wouldn't know where to start.

Re: DIY Board/case
The first thing that you need to learn is how to make a split hinge. You can do that by removing the hinge pin, then cutting away part of one hinge half, then refit the hinge pin in the original half & clip it together.

Re: DIY Board/case
I've ended up with something quite similar to what Dan from Gigrig seems to usually go with. Mine came about part by design (the actual board) but by coincidence it fits snugly into a DJ roadcase (I had to modify the inside foam of it though) which has an insert which can be removed and let's the front row of pedals all be accessed easily. Means I can either leave the board in the case bottom, or actually take it out. I have a right angled jug cord too which just tucks in the back under the raised part along with the pedal power, so it's super quick to setup! Be pretty easy to make a permanently fixed version I think. This photo isn't the best angle but gives you an idea. You're welcome to come and have a look sometime if you want.
