Sodder iron? We had a Weller station at my old work, I remember the tips were expensive. My hakko (clone) had dry joints where the din connector for the handpiece was soldered to the pcb. Never looked inside the Weller, good luck

Turns out Weller really good at customer service, been in touch with the Australians, via US form Weller.com, looks like someone changed a plug on the station, which made diagnosis confusing. Think I have it sorted now.
