Barefaced Cab - 'Augmented Vent Defractor' internal pics.

Post by Molly »

Cab builders here might be interested in the internals of my new Barefaced 112. I did my own a/b with an oversize Zilla 212 and there was no question that the 112 sounded bigger and more 'full'; much more present bass (as best I can describe it) and it sounds the same regardless of where you're standing in relation to it. First, here's the man himself to explain:

So, mine's one of these.

Yesterday I swapped-out the V30 for a Creamback 75 so took the opportunity to take a few pics.

Awesome.

Little 1x12 cabs normally sound 'boxy' to me because of their size. Does this eliminate that completely?

Would you choose any other cab over it?

If you're in a position to play really loud it's hard to beat the thud from a Friedman 412 but for real world use I cant think of a cab I've had that I'd have over this one.

Not in the least boxy. Going to see if I can replicate this one by modifying my Friedman 112. Stereo!

Not sure what that means, sorry. In the video he shows a wee animation to illustrate the internal construction.

This thing tempts me: https://barefacedaudio.com/products/big-baby

More as a FRFR speaker for the Helix, for guitar and bass.

I mean I don't need it, but its tempting!

Oh... Sorry. From the website:

The increased low frequency output from the AVD may be too much for some guitarists’ tastes - so you can flick this switch and remove lows at the cab. Doing so not only changes the bass response but also increases the power handling of the cab, lowers the distortion due to motor excursion and reduces the load on your amp’s output stage. This can give you two different sweet-spots of optimum speaker overdrive or break-up and two different sweet-spots of power valve overdrive. If your sound is perfect in rehearsal but too dirty at a louder gig then engaging the Lo Cut filer will clean it up.

I have been reliably informed that some manufacturers of bass cabs were useing very similar internal construction decades ago.

Barefaced was established as a maker of bass cabs. I understand they're well regarded (according to the only bass player I know).
