Building 1x12 cab
I'm going to build a speaker cab. 1x12.
Where is a good place to buy materials ( tolex, vinyl, handles, etc)
Any opinions on timber? Solid or ply? 12 ply is what I'm thinking of using.

Re: Building 1x12 cab
Some plans would be great.
I,m going to have to drag out some very old skills. I did a cabinetmaking apprenticeship when I left school. I'm a fisherman now. Hope I havn't forgotten to much in 25 years.

Livesound.co.nz is an excellent place to get cabinet hardware (handles, corners etc). You can't order it online but have a look at http://www.penn-elcom.com/ (livesound stock their stuff), find what you need and send the part numbers in a product enquiry and they'll sort you out. They're really reasonably priced, have a fair bit in stock and will ship quickly.
Ryan at customaudioboutique.co.nz (forum member) has some tolex and grill cloth.
I used vinyl from spotlight to cover mine.

Re: Building 1x12 cab
For sure. It's easy to transform them into the same dimensions as the Mesa boogie ported Thiele 1x12" cabinet.benderissimo wrote:robnobcorncob wrote:I have some Electro Voice Theile cabinet TL806 plans/diagrams in .PDF format if you want a copy ?

Check your email Ben.
Sweet mate. It seems to be taking a while to arrive but when it does I'll get it out to you. I think I might have found it on the EV website somewhere but I can't remember.crowbgood1 wrote:Sent you a PM with my e-mail... cheersrobnobcorncob wrote:I have some Electro Voice Theile cabinet TL806 plans/diagrams in .PDF format if you want a copy ?

Re: Building 1x12 cab
Haha, fisherman eh?
I worked at sea for 12 years, mostly on a big factory trawler namer Sea Hunter 1. They sold it after 10 years when fuel prices got too high. I miss it. Might be going back to sea later this year though.
Who do you work for?
I'm watching with interest, because I'd like to build a cab with H30s later this year. (yep, I heard them in the capts cab, and are gassing for them too.)

If you want to use ply then plyman has a good range. We have found Gaboon ply to be excellent and void free.crowbgood1 wrote:I'm going to build a speaker cab. 1x12.
