And more importantly... a closed back tube combo will overheat, catch on fire and burn your whole family and most of your pets.

Re: Building a combo amp
never realised you were going for fully closed
The laney tube combos are closed back - but only the speaker part, you need that air around the tubes - and so they can keep you warm in the cold winter nights...

So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Re: Building a combo amp
Probably cynicism talking, but I suspect that's cos 1, it means paying for less materials, and 2, it means not having to sit down and work out the box parameters for a closed cab. Wasn't old man Fender a thrifty soul?Braden-M-50 wrote:5. Fenders are usually open back and im suspecting thats for a good reason (Adds to the fender tone and what not )

Wasn't going to go fully closed. I would've had a cutout about 30 by 20cm in an oval shape. Like this:BG wrote:never realised you were going for fully closed

But now im going optional closed...

Re: Building a combo amp
If you make your open back with 2 panels: top one covering about 1/2 the back space, and the bottom one covering a 1/4 - then you can shimmy the bottom panel down 1/2" at a time until you lose the boominess, and there you have a tuned cab.

Re: Building a combo amp
This project is really pissing me off. I don't have enough of what i need, i don't have the tools do what i need. Running out of money.
When this is done i'm selling it and staying away from the amp building scene until i've got some tools for myself and are less pressured and stressed to get it done.
I've gone a good 3 months without an amp and it's not very fun.
Also, would anybody like to buy everything needed to build the amp? eg, tolex, handles, feet, cables, actual amp, speakers, grill cloth?
Would be a good project and you would only need to build the main part of it.
Just putting it out there.
