Been gassing for a 2x12 for ages, what sorta speakers and tones do people go after?
I'm thinking of building a Mesa style cab with a G12H and a Greenback in it, and the ability to run each speaker separately (stereo or one in mono), both in parallel, or in series, I assume I should buy 8 ohm speakers?

Depends what you're after long term. I'm currently running a 2x12 with a Greenback and a GT75 in it, that works really well. The important thing is to get a combination where one is not more sensitive than the other - within reason. I'm also running a 2x12 with Weber alnico 12s in it which is awesome, but alnicos are usually great for classic rock/blues.
For a 2x12, I'd go with 8's for a total impedence of 16 or 2 x 8. 16's for a 4x12. I wouldn't worry too much about stereo, theres not exactly a huge amount of seperation there, and you'll probably get some cancellation (don't take that as gospel, I'm only guessing) unless you effectively build each of them a seperate enclosure in the 2x12. Marshall stereo cabs aren't really much good IME. e.g. I ran a stereo cab at the weekend with stereo delay, meh... ran a feed into top cab and bottom cab, way better

I have a V30 and a GH1230 in my carvin legacy cab which is in the swaps thread. Nice speakers.

BG, building it as 2 1x12's was one thought, with a closeable port between the two sides perhaps, hmmmm, I like the idea of being able to isolate a speaker for trying out different heads etc... Keen to start building some toob amps so would be cool to be able to roadtest speakers easily. Maybe I'm just over complicating it 
Mmmm if I was in wellies I'd be tempted to grab that cab Rob, well when I have some cash again... The beauty of DIY tho is I can build an empty cab and then get a speaker at a time etc...
