Open Back Conversion

Post by sizzlingbadger »

I did a little open back conversion on my Oracle 1x12 PPC cab today. Its so much better with the AD30, really suites the amp. I cut the back in half then peeled back the tolex so I could cut another piece of ply off and then re-wrap the tolex back around. It took a while to peel back the tolex as its glued but it was worth it I think, it looks pretty tidy. It has G12H30 Heritage in there too

Very tidy job. Looks almost like it was from the factory. Was the tonal change what you expected - less directional, looser bass?
Too many guitars, not enough talent.

Looks pretty darn tidy to me. How does the Heritage Greenback compare to the regular one. Is it significantly different/better?

Its $120 better

no idea to be honest, it's all I could get at the time, I much prefer it to the V30 that was in there though.

Nice work. I'm thinking of doing the same thing with mine.

I'm tempted to keep the original back and make another so I've got the option of having both open or closed back.
Nothing to see here.

I was thinking of doing that too at first, but I then I just thought bugger it and took the saw to it. I was also thinking I could now make a panel that fits the gap and just use that if I want it closed back. It would be easier to change over and smaller to store somewhere.

word of warning, if you haven't let the paint dry completely, you may find that your speaker is now stuck to it. And if you forget and try and pull it off there is the chance you could rip your cone. I know this from bitter experience.
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Looks like a very pro job. But you should've kept spraying the black all over and got rid of that yucky orange colour on the outside...
