PYE Radiogram - Vibrolux First project Amp

Post by JustMatt »

Hi All,

My wife found me looking at this radiogram at the Eco Shop today and insisted I buy it. The plan is to turn it into a 5F11 tweed vibrolux sorta amp and I reckon its gonna look so pretty that I will be allowed to keep it in the living room.

I have never done anything with an Amp before so looking for any and all advice from folks that have done something similar.

I will be doing everything from stripping, re finishing, re covering, new speakers and building the amp circuit (from a kit set).

First question - How long can these things retain those high voltages? Is it going to kill me or nah?

If you have to ask that, then yes it is.

Discharge the caps

That's a brilliant idea for a lounge room amp. Bender, your Mrs. might just be fooled by this too.
I'm not going to be able to pass an old bit of furniture without

Ha! Nope. But Mrs Bender likes the surf green tremolux or pretty much any non-black Vox... As long as there's a guitar too. Current favourite is the green Gretsch but she's also very partial to the gold Robin. Teles are banned though. ;-)

I'd never get away with an amp or guitar in the lounge, but given the state of the kids right now, that might be a blessing in disguise...
