Re: PYE Radiogram - Vibrolux First project Amp
A while back, I had an old Phillips valve radio which had an el84 output tube.
It also had a gramophone connection, so I wired an input jack to that. The output volume was not very loud but very warm. I also used a small preamp to boost it into overdrive. The original speaker worked fine & the unit certainly had a retro look. I did get some estimates to alter & upgrade the circuit, but it was cheaper to buy a proper amp.
So, have fun with your restoration!

Went out and bought some alligator clips, heat shrink and resistors today. Gonna wait till I have the wife here so she can call the ambulance for me.TmcB wrote:If you have to ask that, then yes it is.ToneLoungeMatt wrote:First question - How long can these things retain those high voltages? Nice. I did look at the circuit that is in there and thought about doing a conversion but have decided to rip the guts out completely and put a kit set in there.H671 wrote:A while back, I had an old Phillips valve radio which had an el84 output tube.

It has an old record player / changer in it too. Might try and do something with that.

Tried locking away the kids? It is a lot easier than putting everything else out of reach.jeremyb wrote:Yep, I'm way too precious about my gear to have it anywhere but locked away in cases!hamo wrote:I'd never get away with an amp or guitar in the lounge, but given the state of the kids right now, that might be a blessing in disguise...

Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

That's a really good looking project, heaps of potential!
The voltages were the thing that freaked me the most about building - well the troubleshooting side anyway - of my champ.

He means if u get a belt it will hopefully discharge down the side of you and out your feet, rather than from one hand, across your chest to your other hand which is touching something else, stopping your heart in the process.ToneLoungeMatt wrote:And my other hand... smoking.. a cigarette?slowfingers wrote: Keep one hand in your pocket.

Yeah I have been doing plenty of reading on the subject. Just couldn't help referencing Alanis Morissette.Scooter13 wrote:He means if u get a belt it will hopefully discharge down the side of you and out your feet, rather than from one hand, across your chest to your other hand which is touching something else, stopping your heart in the process.ToneLoungeMatt wrote:And my other hand... smoking.. a cigarette?slowfingers wrote: Keep one hand in your pocket.
