Wiring up my cab

Post by AiRdAd »

Hi Guys,

I've sold my 2x12 cabinet to JB because it had a huge crack in it, whoops, I mean I couldn't fit it into my sleepout with all of the other crap I've got in there.

I want to take four speakers out of my quad and replace them with the two speakers that were in my 2x12.

I've got a couple of questions please.

Should I leave the two holes left by not having the extra two speakers in there? Or should I cover the holes over?

Also, could I just leave the other two existing speakers in there, and not connect them up? Or would The pressure created by the two working speakers ruin them?

Also, with two speakers in the quad, where would be the best place to put them. It is an 'a' style cab that has the top two speakers facing up a bit. Would I put them in the top, bottom, or one at the top and one at the bottom?

Thanks heaps Danny

Yes you can leave the holes open, this would give you a detuned cab - it should sound more open and less focused than a normal closed back cab.

Yes you can leave the speakers in there and not wired up, they will act in effect a bit like passive radiators, no damage will be done, they pump when they're powered so pumping unpowered (oh-err) is not going to kill them.

Oh and its up to you where you put them, both at the top would be my pick
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

The picture you sent me of the huge crack on the cab was not what I was expecting!!

The empty holes give the cab more wings/ speedball/ joy powder etc
