Snakeskin Deluxe Clone
Since there is a heap of guitar related DIY builds up at the moment, thought would post this up!
Its a 5E3 Tweed Deluxe clone with the chassis and parts from Boot Hill Amps in the States, the Cannabis Rex Emi speaker from Ryan of the Amp Shop, corners and handle from left over Mojotone parts from my first build, and a slightly oversized homemade cab. Tubes are NOS from a local guy here in Christchurch.
Have continued the snakeskin theme - surely snakeskin can be the new tweed?
Needs some feet, and something to attach the power cord to the side of the cab.
Still working through chosing the set up I like (currently plugged into normal 1 is fav - and having it cranked), still to try replacing V1 with a 12AX7 rather than the trad 12AY7 and using a channel jumper. Had a couple of snags that needed sorting, the main one being a crap solder joint from the V1 cathode resistor to the ground bus.
But overall, sounds pretty good, little bit of hum when not playing - but hitting the strings clears that issue up!!
And a family shot.....

I never knew you had a 5E3, I've been dying to try one out for ages! Might have to bring the Tele over and have a go, that is of course assuming we can find a window where the chrildren aren't sleeping, the wife has had at least 2 coffees and in a good mood and both our planets align!

Re: Snakeskin Deluxe Clone
thanks JB - yeah, the little one loves turning the dials. Makes for a nice surprise!jeremyb wrote:Awesome dude, love it!!! Cute kids too!!
I don't think I started getting it built up till after your tele body. Had the guts of the cab done I think, but did the board and wiring late Nov/December. Yeah, doesn't take too much does it !! Maybe JB needs to organise another gearfest!Reg18 wrote:I never knew you had a 5E3, I've been dying to try one out for ages! Always keen for a gearfest, even if it's just a few of us chilling out somewhere where we can make some noise

Damn. Was looking for the bit where you put a price (for the amp, not the kids...).
Very cool project. Should've kept mine.

Cheers, was good fun to do. Yeah, real shame cos it would be good to compare to a real one!! Not sure if any other locals have one.
