Another Cab 2x12

Post by Marshmallow »

Started building another cab after having a chat with SimpleSi. This time I didn't have to do it in a rush. I've built this cab from my left over pine (guess there's a lot  ) I've stopped making it for now and will probably continue it this weekend or the next weekend. I managed to stuff up the front face of the amp head box cover though but it's all good. The pine grain are matched for the 2x12 cab. Will redo it again when I get the time.

For now, the finish will be dark wood with polyurethane....like what Tim said, if i didn't like it, put tolex over it haha. Hoping to make it as shiny as Joe Satriani's head or even shinier. Thinking of adding a different tone inlay? (natural pine instead of dark wood).

Any thoughts on the front face of the amp head? The tubes on the amp will be reverse like fender so any design input will be of help haha.

Need another 8 ohm, they're either expensive or the cheap ones are sold really fast. Someone trade for my 16 ohm vinatge 30s!

Hey david!

Umm I probably wouldn't charge if you provide the wood but when I say that, it's really hard to find the time, will probably take 3 weeks to make due to my lack of daytime hours after work haha

Bloody hell that's awesome. I would love an empty 2x12 cab similar to that.

Might have to take a leaf from your book and build one. Hard finding the time though.

That's such a neat job you've done. Looks fantastic. I'm hoping to do something similar once I've access to the school woodwork room later this year.

I've a cast frame Fane 8 ohm something or other here. Maybe that'd do?

Hey guys, Update,

THe amp is ready for sanding, as for the back cover, I wasn't sure whether I need a closed back or an open back so I made 2. A closed one and a slightly opened one.

Anyway here's the progress, I'll sand the wood tomorrow and paint it a few days after.

Turns out I need another 16 ohm speaker. I'll have to order piping soon too, can't seem to find them in any store so i'll have to make my own.

Hey guys,

Here's the finished ish product, It's got my mates triumph 60 in it for now, i've given up on the amp build and have handed it over to my brother so he can finish it for me. haha.

Anyway, here's the enclosure, it's currently running v30 and a greenback. I thought the greenback was gonna sound fizzy but The sound is amazing with this cab, half closed ish. I'm still waiting for the clear coat to fully settle then i'll give it a quick wet and sand and polish for a piano like finish. It's still need a good clean too, there's wood remains all over the amp haha. I haven't done a proper photoshoot probably when my amp is finished and when thsi cab is all polished
