Yet another 2x12 cab

Post by codedog »

Just looking at the top half of the first page of this section I've seen 4 threads about 2x12 cabs. Here's another one! Lesson learnt: don't go cheap on the wood... one of the laminated pine panels warped or was not planed level, and I didn't check when measuring before cutting

Very neat. Looks like a nice piece of furniture. What speakers are going in it?

Thanks guys, it's been fun to build :) I've got a couple of Eminence Legend, out of a Soldano cab, from Danny.

I've had two parcels from livesound.co.nz arrive since the week before Christmas, and yet still waiting for a smaller parcel from guitarparts.co.nz. Shipping costs had less than $1 difference IIRC, but guitarstuff.co.nz is taking forever. I wonder if they drop-ship from overseas sources. I've got all the hardware except for the jacks and jack plates from guitarparts :/

front page of guitarparts site :
Christmas Holidays: We are now closed till Tuesday 3rd January. You can still place orders during this time, and shipping will recommence when we reopen. Merry Xmas!.

They always take a long break. And they ship from Australia now, they stopped being a nz company a few years back. Most parts are from Allparts and held in stock, though in aus.
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

D'oh! That's the trouble with going straight to a product page from Google search, I skipped their front page entirely. I'm pretty sure nothing in the order process mentioned that. Also, I ordered 20th Dec and received an email stating my order has been dispatched.

It seems my made a bit of a mistake by stapling the cloth to the front baffle before pushing it in. The rather firm fit pushes the cloth forward as the baffle was pressed in, it was flapping in a stiff breeze! I guess it was my CDO, I ended up installing those corner screws to pull the cloth tighter. I wonder if in the future I should leave the fixing of the cloth till after I have fixed the baffle in place and stretch the cloth from the inside...

So, my next question is, piping. I see quite a bit of cream piping available on Ebay. I saw one dark brown piping on Mojotone but shipping is a killer. Can anyone suggest a good source of this stuff?

PS. Scored that USB interface for $120, it's practically new... unwanted gift.

I'm just about to put some cloth on a grill. Is the best idea to put the baffle in, and then stretch the grill cloth around it, and then staple it in?

Wrap the cloth around the baffle as best as you can, put the whole thing in, the stretch from the inside. Does that make sense? That's what I'm planning to do next time... not sure if it's the right strategy. Worth a try? You can be the guinea pig and let us know how you get on ;)

Check out the third photo in the original post, make sure you leave heaps of cloth in there, at least enough to grip and stretch after stapling along one edge.

dampen the cloth first, before stapling, so it tightens up when it dries....
