single channel ab763 - hoffman 6v6 instead of 6l6?

Post by StrummersOfThunder »

Hello amp brain people

Im thinking of building a deluxe reverb without the normal channel

Hoffman has a great looking schematic/layout and BOM but it calls for 6l6 and larger trannies than the two channel version (which is in keeping with a traditional DR) and i really want a 6v6 platform.

here is the single channel build info:
http://el34world.com/Hoffman/files/Hoffman_AB763_1.pdf
http://hoffmanamps.com/MyStore/perlshop ... D=!ORDERID!

I dont need another 6l6 amp so my question is can i just use the same layout and bill of materials from above but sub in a DR type tranny and 6v6 or are their other subtle things i'll need to consider.

cheers

Probably not helpful but you could just, um, maybe look at a Princeton schematic instead?
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

If you want a 1-channel Deluxe reverb BF amp with reverb and tremolo, you could build an Allen Encore but with 6V6s and different transformers. I built my own (6L6-based) variant on this a few years ago - still use it quite often

Decided to go for a take on the Allen amps encore which is a single channel blackface vibrolux the platform with brown face tremolo.
Can accommodate 6v6 or 6l6 with a change of rectifier tube and speaker impedance
Slowly assembling parts then I might start a build thread

Cool. Did you manage to grab the Encore schematic I briefly posted earlier?
