6G15 Stand Alone Reverb Completed

Post by MikeC »

I just finished putting the Oxblood front panel cloth on my Fender 6G15 Stand Alone Reverb clone and am pretty proud of the result. The great looking lacquered tweed pine cab was made by BG. I used a piece of the aluminium locking strut from my old step ladder to make the reverb-tank lock mechanism. The tank mounting springs (thanks Bunnings) and the lock took a bit of figuring out but it all works well. This unit readily picks up environmental noise (e.g. the Wireless Access Point in my office), so I had to shield the back panel with aluminium foil (cut from a disposable oven tray) which is connected to earth via a spade connector. Even the pre-amp valve shields make an audible difference. It also had a mild hum issue which proved to be (mostly) a ground loop back through mains earth - back in the day the Fender chassis weren't connected to earth so it didn't occur. After some trial & error I ended up utilising an "isolated ground" scheme, which I later found out Fender is currently using on their re-issue Reverb units. And I ended up replacing the specified half-wave rectifier with a full-wave bridge to remove a titch more hum. Anyhow, here's a few pics and I'm happy to help if anyone wants to build one of these. The best sounding reverb ever - I'm not a smart man but I (now) know what drip is :)

Fantastic
Well done
I used a floating ground scheme on mine akin to the marshal type. I think it was plucked from the valve wizard info. Enjoy the verb .

Lovely work!
Do i see some braided shield wire next to the valves? If so, where do you buy that?
When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.

Try here https://www.amplifiedparts.com/products ... it-vintage. You can also buy the RCA connectors separately - cut the braided cable to length then solder a new RCA connector on. Looks the part too!
