British style 1x12 from scraps

Finally got round to using the laminate ply scraps and made me a 1x12. The Marshall 1974x was the inspiration. It's ready for covering. If I'd taken a bit more care routing the edges I might have been tempted to keep it uncovered.

After the usual 6-month delay in getting back to my unfinished projects... I finally have some vinyl to cover this thing.

It ain't tolex, but I'm doing this cab on a (close to) zero-budget, so some free boat vinyl from a friend will do nicely.

Problem is, it's not quite enough to wrap around the cab with one seam.

Need advice for the best way to attack this. I'm thinking the Fender-style wrap, with overlapping pieces top and bottom might be my only option here?

I got some cheap vinyl from spotlight, all manner of colours and its easier if you have enough

Would you say the roller tool is essential?

Yeah ideally a single wrap would have been better, but I'm just making do with what I have for this.

I found it useful for smoothing out the odd bubble and pushing all the material in the direction towards where your join will be etc

Looks awesome so far!
I used vinyl to wrap my 18W. Followed the instructions from an Uncle Doug youtube video, fender style. I used a cheap wallpaper seam roller from mitre10, and the long tack Ados glue on the timber, spray Ados on the vinyl. Worked a treat. Just make sure to paint black under where your joins/corners will be, as the vinyl can shrink a little after drying, and black makes ithe seam less obvious

I realised if I follow the proper 18W Marshall style, it will allow me to get away with 4 pieces using piping in the gaps.

Does anyone know a local supplier, or does anyone have a stash, of the thin gold Marshall piping without the lip/flange?

I realised if I follow the proper 18W Marshall style, it will allow me to get away with 4 pieces using piping in the gaps.

The other option is to ring a local upholsterer or check out craft stores like spotlight

Yeah good call. I have some clear-coated speaker wire somewhere which might look quite cool as piping...
