Re: What's on your work bench?
Absolute cracker of a day in Aucks. Sun is shining and the winds have died down.
So let's sniff some glue...
Came together beautifully. I've been off work and have been wanting to get this done for a week now, glad to tick those off the list before I head back tomorrow.

Re: What's on your work bench?
Got the Vester based partscaster up and running.
That's a wenge neck from ebay. An interesting thing with a 16" radius, big frets, a 'bone' nut, and a beasty profile (around 24mm at the first fret). For the money, not bad and is around 80% there, but would benefit hugely from an actual fret dress and a new nut. What's on there works fine but it could be improved... which I think is the whole point.
The body is the original Vester one, refinished in seafoam ish green. New pickguard from Ali, a set of Fleor Alnico 5 pickups and wiring from my old MIJ Fender strat, the bridge from an old Korean Fender, and the tuners from a Yamaha Pacifica of some variant. It all goes together as it should.
It was a fun project, it sounds very very much like a strat.

Cool as, what's the fretboard material?
When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.

Been loving oiled walnut bench and table tops lately. What are you tuning this into? Single cut? Super strat? etc etc.
Glad I saw the pvc sled idea too. I need to level of a large piece of macrocapa and this will work a treat.

Re: What's on your work bench?
Interesting thread innit. There are quite a few builders and restorers on that forum. I like how this guy admits his errors and shows how he fixes it. Good use of templates too.StrummersOfThunder wrote: ↑Sat Oct 07, 2023 6:42 pmSubscribedJay wrote: ↑Sat Oct 07, 2023 6:36 pm For yous folk who loike restoring guitars, here's one on Fender VI bass

Re: What's on your work bench?
Just sharing this one because the devil is in the detail and nobody would normally notice or care... but I want people to know anyway.
Handles installed today.
316 stainless screws were heat treated to give a matte/rustic type look, then I screwed them all up and made sure that the square drives were all on the same level.... because this is my peace.
