Guitar Action Setup

Post by jeremyb »

So I've been playing around with my S420's setup and working on neck relief and string height, based on Rich's recommendations at: http://www.ibanezrules.com/tech/setup/action.htm I've adjusted the truss rod to set the relief at 0.30mm at the 9th fret using a capo at the first fret, pressing down about the 18th fret and using feeler gauges to check the height. Interestingly enough the manual for my old LTD recommended the same amount of relief and when I adjusted it to that I managed to get the action lower and much nicer!

With setting string height I couldn't be bothered with trial and error, and don't have the funky tool from Stewmac: http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Strai ... 3&xsr=1602 so was gonna revert to using a ruler, but then I found a downloadable pdf one: http://www.4shared.com/document/hXjxMGG ... gauge.html which you can print out and use, just make sure you print it unscaled so it comes out the correct size.

Will give it a try over the weekend and see how it goes :)
