Truss adjustment : Tele

Post by Single coil »

Possibly on the wrong board so mods please move it if it is.

Right.

I want to adjust the truss on my '60s classic tele. The same model open coil has.
No, we are not the same person.

It is a heel adjust truss.
At the moment the neck's curving a wee bit more than it should - Action gets higher and higher up the fretboard etc.
How do I remedy this? I mean, which way do I turn the truss? Tighten or loosen?

Thanks guys.

Going to assume a couple twists to the right = a straighter neck.

Let's give it a go.

1/4 of a turn = alot... don't overdo it. A little bit at a time. Keep in mind that you have to pull off the neck every time you adjust... good motivation to get it right.

You don't have to remove the neck at all to adjust the truss rod, simply remove the pickguard. There's a notch in the neck pickup route that allows you to access the trus rod without removing the neck. This is the case with most vintage style Teles. Like this.

It can be slightly awkward to get around the neck pickup, but it's do-able. If you can find a right-angle/offset screwdriver it's even easier.

Clearly you're the same person, many experts have proved this. And it's truss rod, if you had a truss I believe the nurse would have explained when she fitted it.
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

I often wondered what those lunchbox as screwdrivers were for.

Anywhore, the neck came off and the truss was adjusted. Poor thing could do with a fret dress.

My 2 cents....

After adjusting let it settle for a day at least.

I did my 52 reissue and noticed bugger all straight off.

Chap on TDPRI advised me to wait for at least a day - two preferably - to allow guitar to "reset".

TDPRI are useful sometimes, but I've had a gutsful of them. I'm audiohatemchine on there.

It is sitting for a bit. I think the shape of the case may have something to do with it.
