Super Cool - White pickguard, Right Choice!

Do not let the Caliper Boys make you feel bad. Looks great IMO.

Let me know if it impacts on the balance/weight distribution.

Haha. I knew what I was getting myself into by fitting a Bigsby. :lol:

I'll let you know how the balance feels once I've got the strap buttons fitted. That'll be next weekend. I will say, though, that it feels like a very slinky guitar to play and it's not even set up nicely yet. I think it's the shallow string angle over the saddles compared the usual string-through method.

Is the bridge a special one? Is it cut away around the saddle adjustment screws? Or is it a top loader that you've threaded the strings through.

It's just a standard vintage-type bridge that I modified. Busted out my fourth-form engineering skills and filed away some of the material between the saddle screws. Did a tidy job I think. Not 100% even but that was always going to happen doing it by hand, and I'm being fairly self-critical.

A while ago I bought a paulownia body off guitar fetish for bugger all money just to see what it was like. I picked gold because I always liked the idea of a gold strat but unfortunately when it showed up it was not exactly the colour I was after. The belly cut was way too shallow and the edges were really lacking in the sort of curves a strat should have.

You can see in this next photo how shallow the belly cut was;

On the positive side it did sound good (that may have more to do with the componentry in it) and it's really, really light so I thought why not try and improve the colour and shaping.

So this is it now. A nice vintage looking cream and a whole lot nicer looking contours.

Here's a shot of the back showing the vastly improved belly cut;

So now instead of getting rid of it and starting over with another body, i've got a classic looking and feeling strat that sounds great and is incredibly light. Goes to show what a blunt rusty chisel can achieve!

Not yet. It may or may not get it, it looks pretty good 'unreliced'.

In my first post at the very start of this thread I showed a couple of hollow Rimu Telecaster bodies that I had made. Here's the first one almost finished;
phpPtiyrpPM.jpg
I tried doing it sunburst but that turned to shit so it's ended up black! I haven't wired it up yet, hopefully later on today, but as it stands it seems nice and resonant so i'm thinking it will be a pretty nice little guitar. The finish needs a final buffing too and i'm probably going to give it the ol' beat up after a month or so once the nitros nice and hard.
The next body is going to become an absolute killer rock monster so watch this space!
