Holy crap, you're taking guitar building back to the rudimentary level! Whats next, chopping down trees with stone adzes?! Loving your work, very cool.
Chopping trees with chain saw, don't worry. Re the Totara post, I am a sucker for old timber, especially as this one came from the old farm. Emotional value and stuff like that, I know
Then again, why not use something different and be surprised (or disappointed).

I like my guitars to have a story attached to them, so you can still talk about it if it turns out crap :D

Great stuff jvp2. Very impressed.
Let me know if u still need my tele for measurements.

In the name of all that's sane and holy, man; haven't you heard of a Rip Saw?!!!
I would have preferred a band saw as I did not want to lose too much more timber... and I only rip once in a blue moon, so cross cut saw it was. I am sorry I have disappointed you with my cave man skills

Yes please, but it will be a few weeks before I have finalised the board making process.

More awestruck than disappointed. Cutting with the grain with a crosscut saw is in the same league as mowing your lawn with scissors.
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Me and the daughter got some work done today, body sanded and staining started.

face, body, binding
face, body, binding
tring to decide if to stain the back or not. Decided not to and stay with plain mahogony.

just need to clean up the binding with a model knife now, then tru-oil starts

I'd love to take credit, but it's down to Mother Nature and Adrian at Ash Customeorks. Basic it's a quilted maple layer on a mahogany body. So the amazing 3d effect comes from the maple. The color comes from wood stain.

Can't wait to see the 3rd coat in morning sunshine

After seeing the Telecasters at yesterday's gearfest I got motivated to do some more work...
So I routed three necks - someone on the forum said if you do one, you may as well do a few more. So three it is.

And then I started my home made thicknessing procedure for the Totara planks for the body...

Look at that Rewa Rewa grain! (middle neck is Rimu)

Please tell me the Tele neck will have a traditional Tele headstock. :geek:

At this point in time - NO. I do not like the standard tel headstock, but hey, with 3 necks one may just get a makeover :D

Picked up a slightly different project last week. Looks like it's going to need a fair amount of work.

Why do guitar makers feel it's appropriate to use plastic as a jackplate material?

Image

Why do guitar owners feel it's appropriate to wrap their floyd springs in tissues of unknown origin?

Image

Also, who thought it was a good idea to screw together a broken neck?

Image

Image

Licenced Floyd, that's the good one right...

Image

The top part of a locking nut is overrated, right?

Image

And finally...

Image

Quality! Should be fun trying to tidy this one up.
