What are you planing to use as a finish over the totara? I have read about its tendancy to "leak" oils (or whatever the proper term is) for a long time. I've use a bit of totara and applied tru-oil over top, and had a pig of a job with it being blotchy until I had a lot of coats on. Apparently there is a sealer thats either good for use on, or was developed for, totara? What have you used before?
Sorry, I have not used Totara before so no idea yet but thanks for that info. Totara furniture is beautiful so I guess I would contact a specialist furniture maker.

Slowly getting the Bigsby Tele back together in its new guise.

All that remains is a new nut and setup, as the old nut is cut for the heavy flatwounds I was using when this neck was on my Esquire.

Oh, oops, I thought it was you who made a body from a huuuuge chunk of totara - cutting it up with a hand saw resting on a trailer...... But yeah, there apparently is a sealing product for totara. Tru-oil got there in the end....

Some of my kitchen bits are trimmed in totara (family heirloom stash), polyurethane failed miserably - wouldn't set. Waterbased acrylic clear worked a treat and has withstood twenty years of torture. That's why you'll see me mention it sometimes on my home builds.

Yes that was me. I feel rather stupid now.

I used Mirotone without any issues. I will PM you the product details. Works like a treat.

And all done! :D Got it back this morning from having a new nut fitted. Shitty, washed out phone pic with the Cabronita and the Vox:

Needs some more foam under the neck pickup to raise it a bit higher; not quite getting the clarity I want out of it at the moment. Bridge and middle positions sound excellent though.

Thanks to Good Chap Strummers I now have an outline and template for a Duojet too.

Bumping the thread to report that my Vox is away for some mods. Should have it back within a week. Will detail the results when it returns and I've had a fang (and also used the amp...).

You shouldn't have bumped it. It exposes my total lack of progress on the archtop...
