Humbuckers and Body Shapes
Almost every guitar I look longingly at is a Gibson but they never feel comfortable under my fingers. I'm stuck it seems, with being a Fender guy. Apart from my very first Diplomat SG, I have never had a set of Humbuckers.
So... a question. I would probably use Korina, subject to availability. Any opinions/experience on whether the body shape has any real influence on tonal characteristics? For example, a Jazzmaster body packs more mass than a Strat. Does that amount to anything other than more money for the Osteopath?
I'm a low gain player and I kid myself that the wood/pickup character is still an ingredient of my tone.
Then there's this which gets my juices flowing...with a pair of Jason Lollar's recreations. But that's almost a different thing entirely.

Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

I have to admit that in the PRS realm, this is really interesting...

I reckon a Reverend Club King would be a good thing to look at. Bigger, thinline body with a Fender scale-length neck. P-90s or Humbuckers available. Great guitars.

They would probably would only be minor differences if its solid body (that's only me assuming). I have heard Ash say that the thickness of the body wood has an affect on the overall tone though. Maybe the thickness affects the resonation more noticeably than shape?

I also have GAS for a mountainbike costing $14,500. My champagne tastes are legendary.Conway wrote:What Slowy really wants is a Private Stock Violin II.HackSaw wrote:I have to admit that in the PRS realm, this is really interesting...

That singlecut Standard appeals but it'll be at least twice the price of a homebuild. (I don't sell stuff)
DAMN THAT'S PRETTY!!!!!!!!! But I prefer the Celtic knot inlays

Re: Humbuckers and Body Shapes
I'm a bit conservative in that I don't like the look of HBs in traditional fenders that should have single coils. Also with the JM/Jag I don't like the trem (personal preference) but the guitar just looks wrong without it.
JS1000 maybe? Ben's Reverend idea sounds good too. I reckon thats one very cool looking guitar.

Flame maple, burst, low-gain at the subtle rotation of a volume knob...what more could you want?
The older I get, the more disappointed in myself I become.

I really like Explorers, but even the people who love me agree I look ridiculous wearing one.

I reckon those blacktop Jags look awesome. No idea if they actually play or sound any good, but I'd give one a fling. I'm with Jimi - I love the look of JMs and Jags, but not too keen on the trem...Slowy wrote:
