Funny you should say......

You are spot on, teles are fairly easy to tweak to make a bit different. Although would rather have stuck in filtertrons (or those Z90's that TMcB had for sale), I've gone for the GFS version that seem to get decent reviews and meets my budget to build for a price I could reasonably sell it for (I hope). All part of that crap shoot that Handsoffmatt mentions!

Its a crap pic, but currently just quickly chucked together waiting for some tuners to check everything lines up and intonates etc, then needs some touch up shaping on the neck and rear neck/body joint (its got ferrules not a plate), final sand and paint a kind of daphne blue!

Oh! Is that just the bare wood then? It looks like shell pink from here.

yeah, bad phone camera, bad light etc. its a chambered ash body with a "recycled" mahogany cap - the mahogany is quite light coloured. I was going to grain fill and stain it, but there are some old insect holes that I think may detract once grain filled. So solid colour it is!

So... a question. I would probably use Korina, subject to availability. Any opinions/experience on whether the body shape has any real influence on tonal characteristics? For example, a Jazzmaster body packs more mass than a Strat. Does that amount to anything other than more money for the Osteopath?
I'm a low gain player and I kid myself that the wood/pickup character is still an ingredient of my tone.

Then there's this which gets my juices flowing...with a pair of Jason Lollar's recreations. But that's almost a different thing entirely.

I have a tele style guitar with a humbucker in the bridge position. I doesn't sound like a LP. It sound like a tele with a humbucker.

Gibson SG ?
Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...

I've spent a fair bit of time playing one of these (black one), couldn't sound less like a LP if it tried. The humbuckers in them are a bit odd though, not standard size.

Hey Slowy

My first question is:

Do you want it to sound like a les Paul?

Eg. Is that the sound you're aiming for?

I think my Trussart neck humbucker is the sound he's after.

Yeah, kinda, though there are so many different Les Paul sounds.
I've got SC and P90 covered to my satisfaction so looking for something different and complimentary. Conway's right; the Trussart HB is great but it's neck only.

I really like the sound of your R7 as you know but may be just as happy with a Tele loaded with Lollar Imperials.
