Vintage Guitar Case 'Resurrection'

Post by Jay »

Restoring an original Yamaha Superaxe Case to its former glory, well supposedly...

Usual overdose of photos of a little project that for many people would be an utter waste of time and money. Only the dedicated and freaks will understand

I bought this case from a forum member quite some time ago and have been working on and off (mostly off) on it for the last 10 months or so.

Summary of work done: removed stickers, tightened latches and replaced one latch. Removed old cloth and replaced with similar colour fake fur. Rebuilt storage compartment and neck rest. Glued loose tolex back into place where applicable and gave it a good clean.

I also made templates for all the interior parts so in theory I can build a similar case form scratch.

This was a laborious job and certainly not worth doing from a financial point of view.

I am very happy with the end result, the case looks really good, and hopefully will last another 40 years.

Plenty of photos below to put you off attempting a similar project.

The guitar case as I got it:

How many cookie monsters were killed to finish this?

Yip, I bought it in an awful state :D Since you never played it, you can try it out if you wish. Glen Eden is close to where I am.

Thanks for the compliments Conway and Anthony.

Great work. Love this sort of stuff. I have a munted SG case from 63/64 I would like to restore. It has serious wood issues but this has given me some fresh motivation.

Yeah I still miss the chrome colorsound fuzz wah I swapped for it lol. Sweet, maybe we could have a bit of a jam! DO you have two amps? or i could get a ride and bring my classic 30. PM me your cell dawg.

Jam? Isn't that the stuff that goes on toast? I'm an ol' geezer, I can strum, sort of sing and only play CCR, Neil Young and Eagles covers. Does dawg stand for Digital Audio Workstation Gas?
