builds for 2017 so far

Post by willow13 »

First pic is the ebony neck gets a soul mate...still needs lots of shaping but you get the idea

Image

body is sapele with a veneer (only there because I did some weight relief .... this is by far the heaviest bit of sapele I have ever worked with), will be trans black. Will have a floyd (with a MASSIVE brass block).......given the sapele tone characteristics and the brass this should be one HUGE/FAT sounding beast

second is a Korina SS with maple veneer (thanks to thomas (marshmellow) for the body)...will have Gold floyd with a JB (with and A8 magnet)...I have never seen a 3 piece headstock but this has one, need to work on the staining to get it a bit more uniform.....very much looking forward to finishing this one

Hey Grant

no the ebony is a warmoth neck and the sharkie is from the late 80's

I haven't made a neck for a while. Lost a bit of confidence as most of the ones I make seem a bit "off".... my goal this year is to make a few as I have loads of wood and fret wire (oh and truss rods), just need to start one to get the ball rolling

So does that mean you are going to remove most of the lower bout over the electronics cavity and set it on fire - again?

I know what you mean about making necks, still working on getting the back profile carving method sorted. If you ever want to part with some of your maple stockpile....

I have built over 20. Pictures are on here some where

you are a brave man doing a refret right from the get go....I am still yet to do one (always worried about wrecking a good neck). Fretting from new is way less scary

I have a fretless tellie neck you can practice on, box o beers/12 pack/6 nice ones/2 X epic lupalingus .
There are still some that think the neck PU is moved to accommodate the extra frets which only proves they cannot detect the difference in length of each.

get your neck nice and straight before leveling the frets and you'll be fine.

thanks for the offer mate but I have a couple of old necks already and a pre slotted fretboard that needs to be used .... in fact if I ever got my shit together I could easily build 5 more guitars for basically nothing....although I am always short of pick ups
