Jazzmaster build - NSFW fauxjo content
Finished and I am very happy. Intense fauxjo and fake Fender decal complete the picture.
Light swamp ash nitro finished body. eBay auction from MJT. Very impressed with this body - quality of the wood and finish (alas, the fauxjo was already there...this was not for a "build" but a stock item they had). Toyed with a refin but cannot be arsed.
Neck was made to my spec at Musikraft. Clay dots top and side, 9.5" radius, bigger frets, 1959 Les Paul profile, two way truss, dark rosewood. Good Lord it is a thing of beauty. I finished it myself with nitro, vintage tinted. Only about 5 coats for a vintage thin feel. Nut is bone. I started with micarta but nah, didnt like where it was heading. I always end up using either bone or Tusq these days. The decal is one I've had here for ages...it has a slightly tear in the last scroll so no good for resto, but perfect for this. Only on the surface so a damp cloth and off it comes.
Tuners are Gotoh. I normally would use Klusons, but I so sick of their shitty workmanship recently. They are perfect.
Pickups are Seymour Duncan Hot for Jazzmaster. Hotter than vintage but they retain that single coil chime nicely. Perfect for my style. Thanks Music Planet for the good deal.
Pots are 430k (bridge) and 480k (neck). Circuit is my own thing. Two volume down below, two tone up above, switch is a tone stack bypass. Love it.
Bridge is a mastery and the tail a standard USA Fender.
Esssentially it's a USA made custom JM..and it plays and sounds just like I'd hoped.

Hnngh. Intense Jazzmaster GAS approaching! Looks great. I like the two vol/two tone setup; that was an inspired idea.
Proper clay dots in the neck or the imitation ones? That fingerboard is luverly.

Proper clay - the neck cost more than the body, pickups and tuners put together.

Fantastic job Grant but morally, I have to call you on the sticker. I trust it would never leave your hands with that on there.
Fender have probably never made a Jazzmaster that good.

I absolutely knew that would be blonde / Olympic white before even scrolling down to the pictures.

Actually, It might be a great match. I reckon Grant bears more than a passing resemblance to Nels Cline.
