Wouldn't be surprised if he owns (or is planning to open) a repair shop.Danger Mouse wrote:I think it's a "because I can" project. Amazing work, but why is a fair question.

Me too.. just imagining my router blowing hunks of wood out that was supposed to stay..Molly wrote:Really? Oh to have the skills and confidence, eh? I'd destroy it in five seconds flat.

The guitar looks amazing. But I bet if you added the cost of the original guitar, cost of materials, and the time involved, you could probably by an R9!!!

That is amazing work, but all it really does for me is show why the custom shop pieces cost so much and are worth it. It's a hellish amount of effort - pay the pros to do that shit I say!

Uitar? Don't they all start with G?
They keep telling me tone is in the fingers, but I have yet to see a "look at my fingers" thread.

I was thinking that, also if you're going to that effort - why not start from scratch? he's fannying around stripping it, removing the fretboard, reshaping the headstock etc. Guys got the skills and talent and knows his way around a router. It would probably be less work!AiRdAd wrote:The guitar looks amazing. But I bet if you added the cost of the original guitar, cost of materials, and the time involved, you could probably by an R9!!!
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Why not make a better one? You know, headstock that doesn't break off with better string angle and scale length for tuning improvement etc....

like it or not, there is no denying the guy is a very talented craftsman. I can appreciate that for sure. With '59 LP copies by ghost builders fetching almost $30K USD, maybe he should try his hand at that if he is not already.

Re: Convert your Les Paul Studio to a 56 Reissue
when i was young one of the bands i played in went to LA for a while
there was a guy called Max who either made or customised guitars to make them look old
(some people insisted he made them from scratch)
this was before old guitars were considered collectable mind .. early 80's?...decades before any custom shop or relics...
he was very meticulous
i wonder if any of his are bought and sold as original
