Convert your Les Paul Studio to a 56 Reissue
Like many of you, to me the Gibson Les Paul Studio is not a true Les Paul. It is branded Gibson, but lacks the trimmings and the vibe of the standard. It says "studio" but no-one of guitar playing pedigree ever recorded in the studio using one. Or played live using one. But this guy sets out how to convert your Studio into something much cooler.

That's super impressive.
One thing irks me - he goes all this way to get it "historically correct" and leaves the incorrectly shaped inlays in place. Silly.
EDIT - I see he is replacing them....

I wasn't aware that they're different from year to year. Is it obvious if you know what you're looking for?GrantB wrote:That's super impressive.

I thought he should fade the pickup covers a bit but after that monumental effort I'll let him off.

I like dots. or nothing.
They keep telling me tone is in the fingers, but I have yet to see a "look at my fingers" thread.

Thats pretty awesome as an end result, but Jesus that's a lot of work.. I think I'll continue to enjoy my Studio as it is..

Really? You mean you won't be getting the iron out and lifting off your fretboard?chur wrote:Thats pretty awesome as an end result, but Jesus that's a lot of work.. I think I'll continue to enjoy my Studio as it is..
Oh to have the skills and confidence, eh? I'd destroy it in five seconds flat.

Re: Convert your Les Paul Studio to a 56 Reissue
You should check out a guy called Mr Beef on that forum, he practically wrote the book on LP conversions and does some incredible stuff. He used to charge $400 for the pleasure of converting a studio into a standard, now it's around double that. Awesome stuff.
I'm going to ignore all that foaming horseshit about nobody of any "pedigree" playing a studio on stage or in the studio. I've read some dumb shit recently, but that's up there.

why do guys like Binding so much geeeze I hate it!
There are still some that think the neck PU is moved to accommodate the extra frets which only proves they cannot detect the difference in length of each.

The economics of this would be marginal for the average person.

What is the point! It's a guitar that starts with a G.

I totally agree, it's perfect at the beginning of the process....why bother.Conway wrote:What is the point! It's a guitar that starts with a G.
