Ebony and bone logo

Post by Jay »

Previously I made my logos from cow bone. For the Gretsch Copy I tried a different method. You be the judge if it is any good....

Started with a thin piece of ebony and drew logo. All pencil marked stuff needs to go.

Image

Then removed bits with a drill, then file

Image

Not easy, bits are breaking off...

Image

Glued the lot on a piece of plastic from a yoghurt container. Looks crap eh?

Image

Now the bone bit... in the jar there is plenty of bone 'dust' from sawing nuts and saddles out of, well bone.

Image

This is not a drug scene. Drip some superglue onto the orange surface and then drop some bone dust on. Then compact it.

Image

Drilled out the holes in the 'Pees' and do the same with ebony dust.

Image

Then remove the logo from the plastic base, et voila, ready for glueing into the headstock.

Image

Recessed headstock and glued the logo in place. Bottom right still shows a small piece of cellotape that i forgot to remove.

When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.

Yep I like that, I reckon you've just about nailed it :) In fact you've inspired me to put some logos on my headstocks!
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Definitely need to have an Auckland gearfest to showcase it when it's finished
Epiphone Riviera P93 & EJ200CE, Hagstrom Viking Bass, Doubleneck bass/guitar.
Rivera Clubster 45, Carvin AG100D, Ashton BSK158.

It is in an acoustic playable state ATM. Just haven't posted any photos yet. Glued the neck in just after the gearfest in Tron. Made some neck shape changes. Made a bone nut and back cover. This weekend, I'll take all the gear off again, give it its final coat and then put the B6 on and make a pickguard.

Making the pickups is going to take quite a while, so may have to source some temporary dynas or so.

It is also the lightest guitar I have made so far... including Bigsby it is just sitting on 3KGs
