Re: [pic heavy as fuck] James's backyard goldtop day spa
So, have you heard the news from spain?
As in the teaser image I posted earlier, the decals are finally fucking here. Hold onto your bollocks - you're about to be taken on a hair raising and bum clenching ride.
Not sure why I got two logos. One's chunkier than the other. Two LP scripts would've been cool too, but ok. Let's not get too carried away.
Here we bloody go.
You'll notice I put the truss cover on to aid placement.
I don't think I breathed a great deal while I was doing this.
Disaster.
Made a right hash of that one. Maybe that's why I got two: Cuz it's such a bitch to do.
Off is the general direction in which it fucked. Hit it with the polish and hoped for the best.
Take a good look. It's the last time you'll see it blank.
This time I had an idea. Let's put the sticky paper on and draw lines on it.
I mean, it worked.
Dohohoh.
I thought about leaving it like that, but I'm a sucker for punishment.
Time to roll with the big boys.
The lines thing didn't work so well this time.
Had the fuckin' reverse problem with the script sticker. It didn't fuckin' stick!!
By Jove.
It took me quite some time to get the "model" bit on. Made a hash of the D, but that's as good as it was going to get. Not my preferred coda for jobs, but ya know.
Let's keep it all stuck down now.
Flickety bit of the last E is on the piss and sticking up. Bastard.
Not bad looking though.
Some whore shots from different angles.
Youuuuuuu little fucker.
Top bit of the P also had too many gins and refuses to sit properly. Really hope the poly holds these things down.
Oop. Drips.
Always make sure you're spraying in a ventilated area.
Do as I say, not as I do.
Get a load of this fucking kamikaze pilot!! Jeeeeeeeesus.
So.
Now.
The largely completed guitar is sitting in the shed (again), drying (again).
Stay tuned. Shit is about to get real.

Was gonna say, you're going on wayyyyy too thick with your paint coats, and now the clear too, you want to do a couple of light passes over it from a foot away or so, then let it dry for 20 minutes, then repeat

Yeah, I don't think you're wrong. It bothers me that it doesn't look like I've done anything to it if I just dust it on. Some weird perception thing.
Went over it again just before (not as heavily lol). Expect it'll be ok to play with tomorrow night.
That or I gradually empty the whole can on it lololol

Re: [pic heavy as fuck] James's backyard goldtop day spa
clearly he lacks patients ....as we all do when we do our own shit. Honestly my home builds would look a million times better if I just took my time, but as soon as it starts looking like a guitar I need to play it so I tend to rush the last parts of finishing ... it kills me every time I fuck up a finish, but I can't help myselfjeremyb wrote:Was gonna say, you're going on wayyyyy too thick with your paint coats, and now the clear too, you want to do a couple of light passes over it from a foot away or so, then let it dry for 20 minutes, then repeat

Re: [pic heavy as fuck] James's backyard goldtop day spa
Ok, where are we today . . .
Right. Dried poly.
Quite right - It was on waaaaaayyyyyy too thick. Drops n' carryon aplenty.
Bloody e tip still sticking up like a dickweed.
Surprisingly, the stuff is super easy sanding.
Urf. Silly bloody non sticking decals.
Time to bust this shit out.
Worked quite well. I hate the stuff with a passion but it sure has its place.
Heeding the advice in jb's earlier post re: dusting the poly on: That's exactly what I did.
Plonked the sawhorse outside (felt sick after the first poly experience), and gracefully and gradually emptied the can on it.
Ended up getting quite sore from the spraying, urf.
For comparison, here is a hand that isn't angry at everything.
This looks good.
This, not so much. It ended up pissing down.
Dusted. Not done though.
Drying with car parts
Pissed the dog off not letting him out on the deck, but he got over it.
Drying inside, away from the rain.
So. Very. Nearly. Dry.
So close to being done. Unffffrrrrr.

I did try to fix it. I sanded the shittest bits out and did it again.
Or am I missing something?

If the headstock looks brand new, it'll look really out of place. Obviously I didn't plan the patina but I think it'll match the 23 year old guitar lol.
