Cool thread! Definitely a great colour on that Strat Molly, especially with the maple board. Nice to see you've decided to find another neck rather than mess with the body

Love that colour Brian. I still have an old Guitarist issue from the early 90's with a Strat that's kind of somewhere between the colour of your one and Mick's Strat from 'That Pedal Show'.

I had GAS for it for years even though I had barely enough to buy a pack of strings.

Decided I'd sanded it enough and thought it was time to try the new nitro aerosol of Olympic White. Immediately it went on I thought it was exactly what I was going for. I want to be able to see the grain through it. Not interested in spending twenty hours painting, grain filling, sanding, repeat. I just want the thinnest colour.

Anyway, there are few fish eyes in this. Can't think how but I'll sand it back and try again. Again, not being overly precious.

Wee grease-spot areas where the paint won't sit. Discovered the cause. It was because of the non-slip mat I'd had the body on whilst I was sanding it. Many more fish eyes evident when I painted the back. No big deal. I'll just wet-and-dry it back and ensure it's in contact with no more than clean paper. Pleased with the immediate result nevertheless.

At home today so doing a few bits on the Tele.

Paint finish isn't exactly how I'd have liked but I can live with it. Don't have all year to get it exactly right.

Took the cheap, Chinese control plate and rubbed it with 1200 grit wet-and-dry. Broke through the chrome quite quickly but kind of like the effect. Mocked up how it'll eventually look:

The colour is great, I’m considering doing my Tele the same trans white over the summer.
Is it a nitro can of lacquer with a little bit of white mixed in, or just a very thin coat of white?

It's from the Spray Store which has relocated to Sockburn area. Had two cans of Olympic White mixed (well, I matched it to a swatch they had called something else). Have only used one can and that included throwing away the first attempt as it was too thick.

Would've been much easier if it was clear with a little white mixed in I guess though the final finish might've been thicker. This is a very thin finish. Just two passes with the first flatted back.

Buying one can is expensive. Buying two isn't as bad as the second is cheaper and the guy gave me the trade price. Think it was about $70 for the two. If you want the other Reg you can have it for $30?
