Strat build.

Post by SimpleSi »

Decided to look into starting my Strat build.

Thinking I'll get a pre-made neck this time around, probably a warmoth.

Looking for ideas on hardware, tuners and bridge..

I know very little about Strat hardware

So, i've settled on the idea of a Roasted maple neck - Glyn is going to sort me with Pickups of his own build.

Getting the Blender strat kit from Obsidianwire (tonelounge)

just have to tackle the task of choosing hardware - bridge and tuners..

Advice?

I keep browsing around the place looking for well priced Roasted/tempered maple.

Does anyone know someone local who deals with Australian Blackwood or Maple that has been tempered.

I do like the idea of buying a pre-made neck - however I made my last one with great results, so wouldn't mind making one from wood again

Overseas is a ball ache because of shipping pricing.

Another vote for the 510, or an older US-made Wilkinson VS 100 if you can find one.

it rather depends if you want it to work or not ;) if you're just going to block it off it doesn't matter.
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

No, but its tempting! I've suddenly developed a bigsby habit....

Wilkinson used to do a more vintage looking two post. Probably still do but I've not needed one for awhile, I have two on strats with locking tuners, graphite nuts. No tuning issues :)

I've always found 6 hole trems to be a bit flaky, not so bad if you remember to pull back up after use though!

I've had such a fantastic bout with the Duesenberg trems..

a B5 sized trem from Doozy shipped is around $250...

I'll have to photoshop some ideas - could be cool (they do it on their Paloma model which is essentially a SSH Strat)

510 FE1. The 2 point ones will stay in tune better than the 6 point ones.
