Hi all, I found out by accident, as I was ordering some goodies, that StewMac are giving 10% discount on all NZ orders as a kind gesture following the Chch shootings.

Just buy the double action truss rods from ebay. I've put them in loads of guitars over 7 years and not one has been anything less than great. They're about $7 shipped to your door.

Is i really only a charitable gesture if you then go on to donate the 10% saved to a cause?

I mean it's nice and all. And good on them. But As far as I can tell all ir achieved was to entice a few kiwi buyers to shop there. The cinic in me sees a bit of commercial gain here.

But what do I know .

You may be right. I think it's a nice gesture though, given that it's not advertised and blasted at you as soon as you go on the site. I didn't notice until I got to the checkout so I take it as a 'hey, NZer, here's 10% off to show that we recognise your country has had something horrible happen there' thing. There are a few guitar builders on here who I thought may be needing supplies and could take advantage of it.

Has anyone taken up the StewMax offer? https://www.stewmac.com/StewMAX/StewMAX ... rship.html

I'm wondering whether it's worth it and whether the free shipping is painfully slow?

Was tempted, depends on how urgent you want items I guess. The cost is aound the same as postage for one order, so anything after that is free shipping.

I paid for a StewMax membership and had some books shipped last week which arrived yesterday. 6 day from Dispatch to my door via FedEx (despite saying 1-4 weeks). There is a caveat in the fine print that anything over 7lbs incurs a shipping fee at which point you might as well not have bothered if you are hoping to ship something big/heavy free of charge. However if you are buying the 1/2 price books/dvds/plans etc. then the free shipping is the icing on the cake.

Previously when I've paid for DHL (Expensive) shipping it's been as quick as 55 hours from Ohio to Wellington.
