Gil Yaron Les Paul build.

Post by Molly »

I gather this thread is well known but it's new to me. If you want to follow a guy building a replica of an early Les Paul in obsessive detail, here y' go.

http://www.tdpri.com/threads/1959-les-p ... 1/page-127

Spoiler above. Maybe start on page one.

I wonder how he finds the materials. I'd be walking up and down the isles at Bunnings going:

"Hmmm, number 3 half-threaded screws..."

"Incredibly specific ground wire..."

"Glue but not that glue or that glue..."

Maybe I'm expecting too much of a DIY superstore.

This is a totally wanking thing to say - but if I was going to spend all of that time and effort to build that guitar - I would of chosen a better top. the top is a bit 'Meh' to me

Imagine if he could build you the LP of your dreams. You pick the top, like the Ace Frehley 59. Nice light mahogany - 8 pound weight built. Zebra humbuckers. He has all the templates and equipment. Better still, imagine being able to help build it under his supervision. Would he give you a discount? Would he let you take his automatic weapon down on the beach for tomfoolery? What a holiday that would be.
