New Music - Devonian Sun (Wellington)
Hey all, I bought an Axe FX a few months ago and thought I should finish some of my songs. Up to this point, I had a valve amp and a collection of pedals. I was very happy with my tone, but I never invested the time to find ideal mic positions and as a result, I always felt that my guitar parts were never finalised.
With the Axe FX, it's so easy. I know a lot of people rate it for it's tone etc, but as a production tool, it's arguably even stronger.
Here's my Bandcamp link: http://devoniansun.bandcamp.com For your convenience though, here are the Youtube versions of some of them:
This one has a kind of stoner vibe. I love Down's Nola album, so maybe there's a bit of that influence in here:

I'm a big Kyuss fan, and after seeing QoTSA live in Wellington, I took a sickie and did this one in one day (I've just got round to converting the guitars to Axe FX):

I had some spare time yesterday and an idea in my head, so I wrote and recorded this in the afternoon:

And finally, this is a 14 minute post rock song:

They're a bit rough around the edges, but that's the way I like it
Some of the gear I used:
- 2010 Gibson Les Paul Standard
- Encore Bass (weird, cheap, short)
- Axe FX II XL
- Laptop
- FLstudio with various plugins

Man, that's cool. I get a real QOTSA vibe from parts of The Purple Palace. Nice work!

I totally get the Deftones/Pantera vibe in Falling Off The Edge Of The World too. Man, this is awesome.

Cheers! I never set out to explicitly copy, but I'm definitely aware of my inspirations at times and I'm happy to channel that into whatever I'm writing.

That's the beauty of it, it doesn't sound like you're trying to be those bands, but it is evocative of them to my ears.h3x3d wrote:Cheers! I never set out to explicitly copy, but I'm definitely aware of my inspirations at times and I'm happy to channel that into whatever I'm writing.

Re: New Music - Devonian Sun (Wellington)
Cool! I wouldn't mind jamming it out with a bassist or drummer in Wellington. I think that would be a lot of fun
