Wave file editor

Post by bobiron »

Looking for a good wave file editor that can do the basics and export mp3s. I will part with some coin, but have a limited budget.

Reaper. Free to try on an unlimited licence, $60 to buy.

Mac? PC?

I like Amadeus for Mac. The other Mac audio app that's really brilliant is Audiofinder by IcedAudio.

Just grab Audacity and add on Lame Mp3 encoder. Even try Wavosaur and see which suits you better.

Both free. Both more than capable.

FWIW I'm a long time user of Sound Forge but could live with either of those and I use wave editors a lot

No need to spend a cent.

I have a mac book pro, albeit vintage now....3 yrs old. Tried Audacity and seems to be problematic for some reason, sometimes it does not save or convert files, so given up on that. I have Reaper, but that is a DAW and not the kind of editor I am after. I have been running the 64 bit version of Reaper but it has been playing up too, so got the latest Tracktion DAW, having used Tracktion 2 for years, so did the upgrade. Just need a reliable editor to compliment it.

Damn, not down with Mac so cant help. Surprised it doesn't work though. Glad to hear people grabbing the new incarnation of Traction. I remember the uproar when Mackie stopped using/supporting it. Heard a lot of good things about the app.

A 3yr old laptop is not ancient...except maybe in Mac hipster land. Should still be plenty good enough.
