I was wondering this too. I am guessing the drivers want to see a Thunderbolt device, but will only see USB if you use an adaptor. Thunderbolt PCIe cards are pricey too.

i wouldnt even entertain the idea, you are paying a premium to start with for TB,if you are gonna throttle it down you may as well get a USB2 interface.

Nope, and there's various versions of thunderbolt too which aren't compatible.... I got an m-audio 2x2m which does USB 2 and C, but have no problems with latency on USB 2, but have the C for future proofing :)

I must admit, having invested in Focusrite and haven't really dug into using it yet, I'm hoping I don't come up against issues. I've heard a few people diss Focusrite.

In the longer term, I'm hoping someone comes up with a thunderbolt 3/USB C option... with Dante (we have Yamaha PA/Digital Mixing system at 'my sunday venue')...
Larrivee 00 Acoustic. FAV Strat for electric. Ibanez SDGR5 for bass. Push for Ableton. When not doing that, 3D CAD for tunnels...

True dat.
Only reason I asked is there's only one Apollo that's USB powered and it's double the price of your one. On board DSP, high quality plugins pres and conversion, plus Hi Z is a real eye opener for me at the moment. It certainly seems to 'cover a lot of ground'.

yeah i hear you there but im sure you could get something with decent pre's for far less, both dollars and hassle.FWIW i had a focusrite voicemaster pro which was excellent-i used that in tandem with a phonic 808 and tracked a half dozen lps/eps with that combo.
I got the tail end of clearance on the old model it seems so prob giving you a false expectation on the UA stuff.
ive heard good things about the audient stuff-
https://www.rubbermonkey.co.nz/Audient/ ... -Interface.

Curious what makes the audient better than the focusrite 2i2?

Better pre amps?
Phantom power on off for each input looks nifty but its not something I'd actually use.

I assume if I'm recording a band live with a stereo mic array, the difference would be unnoticeable?
