Zoom R8 disappearing projects???
Afternoon. I was wondering whether someone could help me with a problem I'm having with a zoom R8. This device is pretty new to me, and the learning curve is steep, but I'm getting my head around it slowly.
We recorded a few songs at band practice last night and considering we used the on-board mics, we were pleasantly surprised with the results. Today, I thought I would have a play around with them e.g. trimming, inserting effects etc etc. I thought I was being clever in making a copy if the project before I tutu'd with it. The project copy went as per instructions, but now I have lost audio from both original and copy(?????). I actually did it to a second project to make sure it wasn't user error, and the same thing happened. When I play the projects there is only silence. Have I done something wrong, did I miss a step somewhere, dunno. Any suggestions out there as to why this may have happened would be welcomed. Cheers in advance.

Is it updated to the latest firmware/software?

Hey, yep, tried it a number of times as that technique is my go to for most electronic devices that act up.griff7628 wrote:Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Hmmmmmm....well is a story in itself. It's a grey import from HK - only a few days old. Everything else seems to work fine with it. Why do you ask?Capt. Black wrote:Where and when did you get it?

Ahh yep. That’s unfortunate. If you bought locally your retailer ( I see Rockshop stock them) or the NZ Zoom distributor could have helped you with a simple phone call.IMOCD wrote:Hmmmmmm....well is a story in itself. Hopefully you can contact whoever you bought it from to get support.
Otherwise, better luck next time when you buy local.

I doubt staff at the Rockshop would have that intimate a level of knowledge with these devices, but I see your point. There are some pretty good forums out there dedicated to zoom multi-trackers, I might have to try my luck there. I'm sure it's user error, but frustrating nonetheless.Capt. Black wrote:Ahh yep. As for buying local, that's a philosophical discussion to be had at a different time I think. Happy Friday!!
Fantastic little boxes BTW - really, really impressed thus far. A big step up from balancing ones phone on top of an amp to record!

Re: Zoom R8 disappearing projects???
having owned a few zooms i find they are not without their quirks. On my h6 i had an awful time just trying to overdub vocals on some prerecorded dumps-turns out i had to go three or four menus deep and enable a mode to be able to hear what i was recording to.
My suggestion is a deep dive of the manual followed up by checking the card contents on a computer.

Re: Zoom R8 disappearing projects???
That's a good idea re: checking the card. Hoping to install Cubase later today, so I'll have a look then. Funny thing is I 'braved' a third project copy last night and it went without a hitch, so it is most likely user error. Even so, I think it has demonstrated I should be using DAW for as much post production as possible to avoid any quirks these may have. Cheers.
