5yrs ago, Peavey Bandit
now, 100W Gunn and Marshall 4x12

Hurdy Gurdy.... some how... and I'm not entirely certain how mind you, an instrument that sounds like someone has shoved a nest of angry hornets into a goose with a kazoo bill and is randomly slapping the poor creature with an accordion.... Sounds amazing.

2006 I think I was messing around with a Boss GT8 and powered speakers, cos I'd just sold my JCM900 and was between gear.

2006: Crate GT212 120W 3 channel solid state combo. Not bad for $600,but not really good.
2011: 50W Drewberry Plexi Clone & Orange 4x12
Vox AC50 Custom Plus & 4x12
Fender Dual Showman Head
evolution indeed, plus there was a tiny terror in there at one point (my first valve amp)

5 years ago = Marshall Valvestate 8080 (recently divorced, no money - but I got to keep my guitars and she got a house. That's a good deal, right? Right?)
Now = rather a lot of amps. Anything from a stock 1960 Fender Super Amp to Marshall 1974x to Traynor Dark Horse, 65 DRRI, Mesa Roadster etc. I use a Divided By Thirteen FTR37 for gigs (reverb and cleans to die for), and a nifty George Daniels Mighty Mouse II for small venues.
Future = lots more of try everything. But I think I'll stay below 50 watts.
Don't even ask about how stupid I am with pedals....

5yrs ago = diddly squat
now = PA
...and how the f*** does one go about affording so many amps over the years as many on here do!?
And more importantly, why? (as in, why change the sound if you've got something that works for you?)

Sold the children for medical experiments. Do you think that was ok, though? Should I have just rented them?RUDENBARK wrote:5yrs ago = diddly squat

They either work hard and save cash to buy them or put them on the tick, what's hard to understand about that??RUDENBARK wrote:5yrs ago = diddly squat

If you outrightly sell, you can do pretty good. But only really if you have a steady supply of children to sell. And, of course, the steady supply of customers to sell to.
If you rent, then you can get an ongoing income from said children, along with, presumably, repeat custom. But then you have to consider upkeep costs, and having a decent amount of variety on hand. And eventually you'll be needing to sell on or trade in anyway.
