What custom (MikeC) amp head?

Post by StrummersOfThunder »

Soooo...

I have a blackface fender head shell from the bandmaster that I combo-fied.
Im thinking about getting Mike to make me an amp that could sub into that combo or use as a head along with my 1x12 cab that im running with the tremolux.

My current amps that I have currently
1. Blond tremolux 6g9-b 30w (breaks up. Giggable but pushing things for surf
2. Bassman 6g6-b 50w (ryan built combo. Cripplingly clean in a good way. Headroom upon headroom. Great trem. works well. pretty good surf set up)
3. 66 Blackface Bandmaster Ab763 - combo 40w
4. Ryan built 6v6 15w head. Cool amp. quite loud and clean but with the 6v6 tone/breakup somewhere between a DR and a princeton
5. Vox ac15. A fairly shitty vox that shouldnt be as good as it is. Featured in all our earlier gigs as the bull kelp surfers. Heavy. Has a celestion blue in it..probably why it sounds good.
6. Fender champ

Initially I was wondering if I should get Mike to build a big clean headroom amp like a twin reverb (sans reverb) or a showman. But then I feel I have those ballparks covered more or less. Admittedly not quite to the punishing levels of those two amps.
I did consider super reverb/vibrolux etc but then I think the bandmaster and the tremolux get me there.

So im wondering if the wisdom of the forum could put forward some ideas. Something that can get into the surf/spaghetti western/drippy clean zone but maybe has a different tone to the fender line up, but would not be too out of place sitting in a fender black face head cab.

Easy!

Thanks

What about something in the SSS vein? Lots of clean headroom with a slightly different voicing to anyhing you have.

I think a 5W Champ-style head in a comically oversized chassis would be awesome.

I've always wanted a face-melting modern high gain monster built into a tweed covered combo or mini head and 1x12.
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll spend thousands on fishing equipment he'll use for a bit, then get bored and move onto something else.
