Buy new!!

Long, long before Simons time (in the late '60s/early '70s) I blew several Rola speakers and sent them back to Jansen to have them reconed. About half of them came back with the + and - terminals around the wrong way. At that time, I didn't check the speakers before wiring them up and chucked them into my 2 quads. Well a bass at high volumes pushes cones quite a bit and with some pushing while others were pulling, it wasn't long before they were stuffed again. To their credit, Jansen re-did them for cost of freight only. Moral of story - ALWAYS check polarity of multiple speaker cabs before applying power to them.

We would have sent them to Axent to the best of my knowledge their demagnetiser is even ours

We don't do recones anymore for these and many other reasons it is actually cheaper for us to install new ones

JBL-E120 8ohm,300W, 103dB.

hugesound have a 2nd hand kit (whatever that means) for it for $180,(i thought i'd mention the $400 one 1st for dramatic effect ) so I might do that if the install cost is reasonable.

http://www.usspeaker.com/JBL%20e120-1.htm it is a discontinued model so things are only going to get harder

A zomax p1265 is similar and they are $180 or the P1250 which are $119

I've a couple of those. One wouldn't be hurt by a recone (has repaired tear).
Last year I was told by a guy in Ch Ch that when these JBLs came out in NZ in the 70's each speaker was supplied with a recone kit as stock, but that the importers, who probably held a monopoly, keep the kits, when they sold 'em on to retailers etc.

Can anybody comment on the veracity of that story?

Borge, I found Zomax much the same as you. For my tastes, just uninspiring, lacking in that nice crisp top and full bottom I like in my speakers.
