Peavey Valveking 100w . Good? Bad?
Hi guys. Been offered one of these at a good price.
Really needing an amp and only wanting to spend around the 500 mark for it. Options in this price range are pretty slim and this 2x12 100 tube seems to stand out a fair bit.
Anyone used them? Google says they are wicked vang for buck.
Thanks

I had one about 10 years ago. They're okay. Don't expect classic tones. Gets a fairly unremarkable but workable clean sound. High gain stuff is pretty compressed.
Good if you can get it for under $500.

Have a mate who used to be the Peavey rep. He rated these as solid & reliable.
Then again, I've never thought much of his preferred tones.

Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

I have the 50W and i think it sound really good..for me it sits around where the blue channel on my EVH is gain wise, but is a bit darker than the EVH....no its know where nearly as nice as the EVH but if it was the only amp I had I could easily work full time with it
Try a little low balling and go for it

John Gilmour (hamilton amp guru) used one as a platform to try some mods out on and man it sounded amazing....am planning on dropping mine off to him to weave some magic at some point

Yeah picked it up and it's a steal for the money. I'm not valve amp guru by a long shot but it makes the kind of sounds that makes me happy so that cool.
Yeah, I saw a few mentions of mods

I had a 50W Valve King, not bad but very much a budget build. I modded mine a fair bit, some of the info is here https://ultimate-guitar-valveking.wikis ... lectronics
Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...
