Which Jet City do you have again?
Re: Best sounding low watt high gain heads
I wouldn't get too hung up on specifically trying to find a pedal that is valve. At the end of the day whatever the pedal - they all react differently to the amp that is being used; all my favourite OD pedals (Snouse Black Box, Wilson Lotus and a few others) have not one tube in sight but sound glorious. Just my 2c.

Indeed. I had my eye on a Wampler Sovereign actually.Mini Forklift Ⓥ wrote:I wouldn't get too hung up on specifically trying to find a pedal that is valve. Oh dude, yeah use a tubescreamer type thing infront of it with drive on zero but the level highish (tone to taste).griff7628 wrote:The 22h. Will "zing it up" a little (not that it needs that) but importantly it'll tighten the bass (cause tubescreamers just do that) and it'll get metal real fast.

How on earth did I miss that? Thought I had email alerts set up on AORs .NippleWrestler wrote:I bought mine last week and the auction for the 50w ended 5 minutes ago. Keep your eyes peeled. The one today went for around $270 which is a crazy price.

Re: Best sounding low watt high gain heads
The guy listed it as 'laney amp', and mine was listed as 'laney pro tube'. Neither mentioned aor.

Re: Best sounding low watt high gain heads
I had the 100w head version about 10 years back. Total JCM killer. Had push-pull pots which drastically effected the EQ in a positive way - the bass boost was phenomenal.hamo wrote:You don't see too many of these now. Would love to get my hands on one, preferably a head. Not that I'd have any coin if one came up.NippleWrestler wrote:Laney AOR 30.
It's the same circuit as the bigger (50w, 100w) amps but uses a smaller power transformer and 6v6 valves (so it's actually around 22w). Which is incidentally a JCM800 circuit with an extra valve, so more gain. Also has more EQ options since the Marsdhall tonestack is laughably minimal.
Awesome little amps, made in England in the 80s and they roar like a thunderbastard.
If you're in Auckland you can try mine if you like. I've got the AOR 30 and the AOR 50.
For the money, nothing comes close. Since these amps are mostly forgotten about (I've been speaking with Laney about a reissue) they can be had dirt cheap for what is essentially a hot-rodded Marshall.

I do mods like that all the time. Send me a PM if you want to discussgriff7628 wrote:willow13 wrote:griff7628 wrote: Indeed. I am currently looking at someone who can mod the SLO channel on mine to tighten that bass up. Than we might have a winner. Or maybe get a tubescreamer to do it. But it's always a gamble of how well it'll work. i think a mod will be better.

I'm pretty much in central New Plymouth (Vogeltown), and I can probably help you out and get you on the right track with your recording. Hit me up in a PM and we can go from there.griff7628 wrote:Thats very kind of you! Let me know if you ever do move here.willow13 wrote:bugger.
